London Home Explosion
In 2019, a vehicle left the roadway and struck a house, including the gas meter.
As a result, there was an explosion that caused a variety of damages to the subject house and those in the vicinity. This included direct and extensive explosion and fire damage to the house and two adjacent homes, so that they were completely destroyed. Fire damage spread to adjacent houses in each direction to various degrees, affecting their structural integrity. Blast waves from the explosion propagated outwards from the source of the explosion, causing various levels of blast wave damage to properties in the neighbourhood. We examined numerous buildings in this subdivision. The assessments we undertook were varied, and included the following:
Assessing the collapsed structure and working with emergency personnel shortly after the initial explosion.
We undertook safety assessments for buildings in the area that sustained extensive damages, including homes that had Orders posted on them by the City of London, to ensure they were safe for contractor personnel to enter.
We prepared structural scope of repairs and drawings for permit for houses that could be repaired and full rebuilds for houses that were so damaged they needed to be demolished and rebuilt.
We documented the extent of blast wave damage to homes in the neighbourhood, and advised on any structural damages to these homes as a result of the blast waves.
We were able to work as a team, with multiple personnel on site conducting assessments, to ensure that all homes were properly assessed in a short time period, to prevent delays and alleviate concerns of insurers, contractors, and homeowners alike.
We have over 25 years of experience in site investigation, litigation, and design of solutions for complex problems.
